The Committee considered the fifth periodic report of Singapore (CEDAW/C/SGP/5) at its 1534th and 1535th meetings (see CEDAW/C/SR.1534 and
CEDAW/C/SR.1535), held on 25 October 2017. The Committee’s list of issues and questions is contained in CEDAW/C/SGP/Q/5 and the responses of Singapore are contained in CEDAW/C/SGP/Q/5/Add.1.

Lesbians, bisexual and transgender women and intersex persons

  1. The Committee expresses its concern that lesbians, bisexual and transgender women and intersex persons face discrimination in various areas of life and that their situation is often exacerbated by the policies of the State party, including its media policy.
  2. The Committee recommends that the State party ensure that lesbians, bisexual and transgender women and intersex persons are effectively protected against all forms of discrimination in law and in practice, including by undertaking educational and awareness-raising campaigns to combat discriminatory stereotypes, including in its media policies.
